Paper Making in the Bayou

Molly Rideout, shares experiences from artist Hannah Chalew’s paper making workshop in Louisiana Field School 2019.

New Orleans artist Hannah Chalew shows OSU student Asha Abreu the first steps of hand-making paper: sinking the screen into the hogged paper pulp.

Students try their hand at paper-making themselves!

Finished paper, made with bagasse and recycled plastics.

Students had a long day but kept up great spirits while transplanting a truck-full of native Louisiana irises in the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge with the Greater New Orleans Iris Society. Natalie Dalea shows off an iris she pulled out of the ditch.

Tili Ritter and Common Ground’s Britt drag a bucket of irises down the boardwalk for replanting.

The mud was deep for replanting!
